Minimum System Requirements

The LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit requires the following minimum system configuration:

Installing the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit

Complete the following steps to install this toolkit:

  1. Log on as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges, as necessary.
  2. Insert the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit media into the disk drive. If the media does not run automatically, open Windows Explorer, right-click the disk drive icon, and select AutoPlay.

    Note:  You also can install the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit from the LabWindows/CVI Platform DVD.
  3. On installation startup, the National Instruments LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit screen appears. Click Install NI LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit.
  4. In the User Information panel, enter your name and organization and the serial number found on your Certificate of Ownership card. LabWindows/CVI uses this serial number when you run the NI Activation Wizard.
  5. Continue to follow the instructions on the screen.

Activating the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit

The first time you launch LabWindows/CVI after installing the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit, you are prompted to activate the toolkit. Complete the following steps to activate the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit.

  1. Select the Automatically activate through a secure Internet connection option and click Next. Your computer must be connected to the Internet for this option to work. If you do not have Internet access on your computer, refer to the LabWindows/CVI Release Notes.
  2. The Serial Number option is populated with the number you entered during installation. Click Next.
  3. Fill in the necessary information and click Next.
  4. Check the option if you would like to receive a confirmation email of your activation and click Next.
  5. After a brief moment, you should receive a message indicating whether the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit has been activated or not. Enter or verify your serial number. Click Next.
  6. Continue to follow the instructions on the screen.
  7. When you successfully activate, click Finish. LabWindows/CVI displays a window indicating when this license expires.

For more information about activation, refer to the LabWindows/CVI Release Notes.

Note  To activate the LabVIEW Advanced Signal Processing Toolkit and the LabVIEW Digital Filter Design Toolkit, you can request the installation media, which includes the serial number, from the National Instruments Web site.

After Installation

Upgrading from Previous Versions

You might encounter the following compatibility issues when you upgrade from previous versions of the toolkit to 7.0.2.

Functions Name Changes

The following function names changed in version 7.0 of the toolkit.

Version 6.0 Function Name Version 7.0.x Function Name
SptArbitraryPath SptArbPathDecomposition
SptConWaveletTransform SptConWaveletTransformEx
SptRealFastGaborSpectrogram SptRealFastGaborSpectrogramEx

If your applications developed with version 6.0 use the functions listed in table above, National Instruments recommends that you use the corresponding version 7.0.x functions.

First and Second Derivative Extension Methods Replaced by Periodic and Spline

Periodic and spline replace first derivative and second derivative as choices for the extension parameter in the JTFA and wavelet analysis functions. The first derivative and second derivative extension methods are still supported in Signal Processing Toolkit 7.0. However, the first derivative and second derivative extension methods are obsolete and not documented in version 7.0. The first derivative and second derivative extension methods might not be supported in the next release of the Signal Processing Toolkit.

num of freq bins Parameter of the SptRealSTFTSpectrogram Function

In version 6.0, the winInfo->N parameter of the SptRealSTFTSpectrogram function specified the column size of the output spectrogram. The column size of the output spectrogram equaled winInfo->N. In Signal Processing Toolkit 7.0, the winInfo->N parameter of the SptRealSTFTSpectrogram specifies the number of frequency bins to observe the input signal in the joint time-frequency domain in terms of a normalized frequency range of the time-frequency representation from DC to 1.0. In version 7.0, the column size of the output spectrogram equals (winInfo->N)/2.

If you used the functions listed previously in applications developed with version 6.0 of the toolkit, you might need to change the size of the memory allocation for the 2D outputs. Refer to the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit Help for information about individual functions.

Memory Allocation for 2D Outputs

The equations used to compute the row size of the 2D output of the following functions changed in version 7.0 of the toolkit:

If you used the functions listed previously in applications developed with version 6.0 of the toolkit, you might need to change the size of the memory allocation for the 2D outputs. Refer to the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit Help for information about individual functions.

SptRealSTFTSpectrogram, SptCxSTFTSpectrogram, SptRealSTFT, and SptCxSTFT

In version 6.0, the row size of the 2D output of the SptRealSTFTSpectrogram, SptCxSTFTSpectrogram, SptRealSTFT, and SptCxSTFT functions was computed using the following equation.

row size = floor(len/winInfo->dM).

In Signal Processing Toolkit 7.0, the row size of the 2D output of the SptRealSTFTSpectrogram, SptCxSTFTSpectrogram, SptRealSTFT, and SptCxSTFT functions is computed using the following equation.

row size = floor(len/winInfo->dM) + 1.

SptRealFastGaborSpectrogram and SptCxFastGaborSpectrogram

In version 6.0, the row sizes of the SptRealFastGaborSpectrogram and SptCxFastGaborSpectrogram functions were computed using the following equation.

row size = floor(floor(len/analysisWinInfo->dM) × analysisWinInfo->dM/timeInterval).

In Signal Processing Toolkit 7.0, the row sizes of the SptRealFastGaborSpectrogram and SptCxFastGaborSpectrogram functions are computed using the following equation.

row size = floor(floor(len/analysisWinInfo->dM + 1) × analysisWinInfo->dM/timeInterval).

Error Codes

Signal Processing Toolkit 7.0 contains a new set of error codes. Refer to the LabWindows/CVI Signal Processing Toolkit Help for information about the error codes.
